7 Myths About Boudoir Photography

7 Myths About Boudoir Photography

  • Post comments:0 Comments

With so many of our clients having their boudoir shoots for the very first time with us, we tend to come across a lot of common myths when it comes to the boudoir session experience and what it’s all about. Below we’ve outlined the 7 most common myths that we hear in our studio- and are dispelling them for you here:

1) You have to be fit, young, and perfectly in shape to do a boudoir photo shoot.

Oh gawd no. Have you seen our portfolio? Our clients come from all shapes, sizes and backgrounds.

Do not think for one second that you’re not fit enough to have your photos taken. The boudoir experience is not about having the “perfect” body (doesn’t exist btw), but rather it’s about honoring the body that you do have and choosing to love and accept yourself, self-perceived flaws and all.

We do have special posing and angling techniques designed for each and every body type. All of our clients are photographed slightly differently because every body is unique.

2) Boudoir photos are taken to gift one’s partner

FALSE! Though you may choose to share your photos with your partner (a nice byproduct of the photo shoot) a boudoir shoot is an experience and a gift to yourself first and foremost. So many of our clients find incredible healing through their session with us. Most of our clients take boudoir photos because they are on a journey of self-discovery and are claiming their worth and power. It’s all about YOU babe.

3) My photos will be displayed all over the internet.

Only if you want them to be.  You must give written permission to have your images shared online. We will always discuss this at the time of viewing your photos. Approximately 30% of our clients choose to keep their images completely private. Many of the photos we take during our shoots are never viewed by the public.

 4) I have to be nude for my boudoir session.

You will never be required to go nude for your session. This is entirely up to you and your comfort level, though we do encourage you to consider it if you’re on the fence about it. The last thing we want is for you to go through the whole boudoir session experience and regret not capturing the actual style of photos that you intended to. We always check in with you multiple times before and on session day to ensure you have every opportunity to remove all the layers if you want to.

 5) I won’t have a say in the editing.

While we have a consistent style of editing that we apply on all our photo collections, we’ll always honor any additional edits that our clients request. These are your photos, you’re investing time and money in them and it’s important that you love them! We discuss any additional edit requests during the reveal and order session.

 6) A Boudoir Shoot is only for people with lots of disposable income.

As with everything in life, you get what you pay for. Good quality photos are an investment that will last a lifetime. Our photos often serve as visual therapy for our clients for many years on end, which is why our clients value the experience and their photo collections enough to invest in them. For those who are unable to pay in full for their photo collection, we do offer financing via our pre-session payment plans. Visit our post on Payment Plans to learn more.

 7) It is arrogant to flaunt my body.

Sure, this is what haters will tell you. But that is low vibe energy babe! Your body is yours and yours only and no one has the right to tell you what to do with it.  Body shaming women needs to end and thanks to boudoir photography, more women than ever are empowering themselves to take their bodies and their feminine power back while finding strength and confidence again.
