Tulum, Mexico is high on the list of one of the best places for female solo travel due to it’s abundance of healing and wellness activities along with it’s invitation to slow down and relax.
Who says we need a travel partner to see the world?
In Tulum, most of my boudoir photo session clients are traveling solo. Many celebrating birthdays, others celebrating breakups and almost always looking for healing opportunities for their solo trip to Tulum.
Our boudoir photo shoots are of course the icing on the cake of an incredibly healing handful of days that you might spend in Tulum. But what will you do with the rest of your trip as a female solo traveler in the Riviera Maya?
Below I’ve laid out my top 7 favorite things for my clients to do while in Tulum, apart from their photo shoot, when traveling solo.
If you’re a solo female traveler who is interested in relaxing and wellness in Tulum, then you’ve come to the right place. Tulum will be the perfect destination for you. Check out the list below and leave your questions in the comments!
1. Book a yoga or meditation class
Tulum is known for its yoga and wellness scene, and there are plenty of classes available for solo female travelers. Consider booking a yoga or meditation class at Sanara with stunning ocean views.
2. Explore the Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve
The Sian Ka’an Biosphere Reserve is a UNESCO World Heritage site located just south of Tulum. It’s a great place to relax and enjoy nature, with opportunities for swimming, kayaking, and birdwatching. Book a tour with a reputable company like Sian Ka’an Community Tours to explore the area safely.
3. Try a temazcal ceremony
A temazcal ceremony is a traditional Mayan sweat lodge ceremony that is believed to have healing properties. Many hotels and retreat centers in Tulum offer temazcal ceremonies, including Holistika and Nomade.
4. Enjoy rooftop sunset views
Hotelito Azul has one of Tulum’s best rooftops with two pools and a lovely bar, perfect at sunset. Consider spending the day here and grab one of their comfy beach beds before happy hour.
5. Visit a local spa
Tulum has plenty of spas that offer a range of treatments, from massages to facials to hydrotherapy. Yaan Healing Sanctuary is one of Tulum’s finest spas to check out. Combine a massage with their Mayan Clay treatment- not to be missed!
6. Visit a local cenote
Cenotes are natural swimming holes that are unique to the Yucatan Peninsula. While there are plenty of popular cenotes in and around Tulum, my personal favorite within Tulum is Kaan Luum, which resembles a big crystal blue lake. If you feel up to traveling to the nearby town of Valladolid, you’ll find the Instagram famous Cenote Suytun. Rent a car for the day for total freedom. Well worth the trip.
7. Experience a cacao ceremony
A cacao ceremony is a spiritual heart opening ritual that involves drinking a special type of chocolate made from cacao beans. Many hotels offer cacao ceremonies, or you can join a local FB group for travelers to ask where more intimate ceremonies might be taking place.
