Meet Your Makeup Artist: Kristina

When you arrive for your Boudoir Experience with Lindsay, the first stop in your journey is with the incredibly talented Hair and Makeup Artists we hire to make you feel like your best self.

It’s a moment of relaxation, serenity, and easy conversation to learn more about what the day will look like. But who is the talent behind the glitz and glamour of our LA boudoir sessions?

Well, her name is Kristina Curtis and we can’t wait to tell you all about her.

So Kristina, how did you meet Lindsay & start working with her?

We connected through a Bay Area Facebook group for artists (I was pretty new to San Francisco at the time because I had moved up from Orange County). She was looking for a makeup artist and hairstylist to work with regularly and I responded to her post because I loved her work! So, we made arrangements to meet in person at a local coffee shop and have now been working together for the past few years!

How did you get inspired to do hair and makeup professionally?

I grew up around it! My mom was a model/actress as well as a makeup artist, so I suppose it all started there. I knew from a young age that I wanted to do something creative. So, when I was 20, I enrolled in cosmetology school to pursue that passion of mine and see where it would take me.

Why do you love working with Boudoir clients?

I love that the clients I meet are there to celebrate themselves! I love seeing their reaction after hair and makeup too- it’s honestly the best compliment for me when they love my work. My goal is always to make the client feel like the best version of themselves.

YES. We Love that about you. And what is your favorite makeup look to do on clients?

I love natural glam makeup and that’s how I like to describe my makeup style in general. My absolute favorite is doing bronzey and earthy tones paired with a pinky-nude lip.

Who inspires you as an artist?

I get inspired by other artists! I love learning and watching what other artists do. Patrick Ta, Hung Vanngo, and Justine Marjan are a few artists who inspire me and I love their work!

What are your favorite skincare tips for your clients pre-photo shoot?

When it comes to skin care prep pre-photoshoot, I think it’s key to stay hydrated and up your water intake. Water makes your skin glow and appear more plump and hydrated. Another great tip is to exfoliate the day/night before the shoot to get rid of any dead skin cells. Exfoliating helps improve the texture of your skin and makeup apply more smoothly too!

What does your typical day look like?

The first thing I typically do in the morning is drink coffee and check my emails. I respond to inquiries and clients to set up appointments or send over wedding day details and timelines. Following that, I love creating content (typically during the week) and I will film a look or two for social media or post client photos and update my website!

When I have a client or wedding booked, I like to prep the day before! I make sure my kit is packed up and ready to go on location. I wash all my brushes and disinfect my products and pack what I need for that specific job. What I love about being a freelance artist is that everyday is slightly different. My job takes me to amazing locations and I get to meet/work with the most amazing people.

What are 4 things people don’t know about you?

-I went skydiving a few years ago and I would definitely go again!

-I met Justin Bieber randomly at a party and got star struck for the first time. haha.

-Most people don’t know that I’m part middle eastern.

-Pre covid, I would make it a goal of mine to travel to at least one new destination every year. Cayman Islands was my last overseas trip and I actually had plans to visit China in February 2020, but due to covid, it was cancelled.

What’s on the radar for you in 2021?

I have one exciting project that I will be launching this year as well as traveling for work in both Northern and Southern California. The big project I’ve been working on is the launch of my first online store, Voux Lashes! After years of customizing the perfect lash to use on my clients, I decided to have them accessible to anyone to use for all their special moments.

Ummm. LOVE. Check out those lashes here.

We couldn’t be more excited to continue working with Kristina and hope she has an opportunity to work with you while we’re still in LA.

Much Love,
